Top Five Reasons To Go Fall Camping

Are you thinking about taking a Fall camping trip? Then consider these top five reasons to pack up your camping gear with the family this new season.

Summer is Gone & Fall is Here

With the busy summer season behind us, Fall is a beautiful time to go camping and relax. You and your family can watch the changing colors of the season and breathe in the newly crisp air. Camping in the Fall provides an excellent window of opportunity before the darkest days of the year set in.

Reason One – More Relaxing

The first reason to go camping during the Autumn season is the ability to relax more. Fewer people are camping at the lake, and this also means there is more availability of camping spaces.

Reason Two – Fewer People, Less Exposure

With the COVID-19 scare, many families are looking for a way to escape from the business of life safely. During the Autumn season, it is much easier to keep your distance while enjoying the outdoors. This can include making a new spin on your Fall holiday celebrations.

Reason Three – Creating Vivid Memories

With the Autumn leaves changing from green to beautiful Fall colors, you and your family can create vivid memories of the season. Hiking during the new season will vividly plant family memories never forgotten. You gain the ability to “take it all in” during this time of the year. Listen carefully without hearing all the summer hooray taking place. See all the changes taking place. Smell the crispness and breathe in the cooler air – creating an unforgettable experience.

Reason Four – Seeing the Wildlife

During your Fall camping excursion, you and your family can enjoy the outdoors more freely – see the wildlife moving about, view the changes in vegetation and trees.
Autumn campers will see more animals – bears, elks, deer, squirrels, moose, and other wildlife. Each lake area will include different native wildlife you and your family can see.

Reason Five – Fall Camping Discounts

Many campsites offer Fall camping discounts. Plan your family outing and call around to different grounds. Frequently, you will find more bottomless deals for your camping experience.

Lake Ray Hubbard

Fishing Report from TPWD (Dec. 18)

GOOD. Water slightly stained; 57 degrees; 2.74 feet below pool. White bass are gathering up in big schools on southern parts of the lake. Look for big bait balls in 30-38 feet of water with 3/4 ounce slabs with 2 jigs tied above working best spread at least 16 inches apart. When fish come thru they are mostly suspended in the 20-30 feet range and reel up to the fish. Crappie are fair and relating to brush 18-28 feet deep moving on and off structure and starting to roam the deep flats. Minnows working best. Catfish are excellent around the north end of the lake around timber using cut shad working best in 10-20 ft water on prepared punch bait and cut bait. Larger blue catfish are showing up on the deep flats. Drifting cut bait as shad, buffalo or carp works best. Report by John Varner, John Varner's Guide Service.
